The Underbelly Project
The Underbelly Project
Somewhere in NYC there's an abandoned subway station, "unfinished, unused and undiscovered." Starting in 2009, 103 artists were secretly escorted into the space to create works of art, encompassing installations, paintings, aerosol, murals and more. Each artist was given one full night to work on their piece. At the end of the project, the original entrance to the station was removed. See more at the Underbelly Project site, and here and here and an interview with one of the artists. picked by suebe 5 months ago

Dinosaur find dries Australia water project
Dinosaur find dries Australia water project
A hoard of dinosaur bones has been discovered at the site of a planned desalination plant meant to deliver Australia's second biggest city from drought, forcing a re-think of the A$3 billion ($2.7 billion) project. The fossilised bones, estimated to be 115 million years old and belonging to dinosaurs and ancient marine reptiles, were found on a windswept beach in front of the planned project at Po... read full post picked by AutumnLotus 3 years ago

MTA Sells Brooklyn Subway Station Naming Rights To Barclays
MTA Sells Brooklyn Subway Station Naming Rights To Barclays
It's been five years since the MTA first welcomed proposals from corporations interested in buying station naming rights, and on Monday the authority quietly revealed that Barclays was the first taker, for $4 million, to be paid in yearly installments of $200,000 a year for 20 years.

So, will they clean the station? Will the trains run on time? picked by suebe 2 years ago

Destino: A cartoon short by Disney, and Dali
Destino: A cartoon short by Disney, and Dali
In 1946, artist Salvador Dali and Walt Disney became collaborators, and set to work on a short film called Destino. The project was abandoned with less than 20 seconds of film shot, but six decades later Disney artists completed the film using Dali's original storyboards. The result is easily the strangest thing to come out of the Disney studios since... Well, probably ever.

The Subway Reborn as an Awesome Cello
Brooklyn resident Alexander Chen built this cool, melodic web page that represents New York subway lines as ever-growing strings that are "plucked" by intersecting trains. Best of all, it's built off a live feed of actual train data. picked by suebe 1 month ago

Mets Subway Stop Will Not Be Re-Named Citi Field

There's only one of each letter pair available...
There's something irresistible about The Art Initials project (www.artinitials.com). The works themselves - two simple block letters painted on a small canvas - aren't particularly extraordinary. But after poking around the site, you'll realize there's only one of each letter pair available, and you might start feeling the pressure to snatch up your initials before someone else does... picked by artinitials 4 years ago
